The Ioniq 6 goes 24 to 26 miles farther: 342 miles for a 2025 SE RWD against 318 for a long-range Ioniq 5 RWD, and 316 against 290 with AWD. Both charge from 10 to 80% in about 18 to 20 minutes on a 350-kW charger. In New York, where many drivers have no home charger, the Ioniq 5's built-in NACS port is a real edge: it plugs straight into Tesla Superchargers, while the Ioniq 6 needs an adapter.

The long-range and AWD models use the same motors: 225 hp with one motor, or 320 hp with dual-motor AWD; only the Standard Range models differ, at 168 hp for the Ioniq 5 and 149 for the Ioniq 6. Edmunds measured 0 to 60 mph in 4.7 seconds for an AWD Ioniq 5 Limited and 4.6 for an AWD Ioniq 6 Limited. The Ioniq 5 XRT can also tow up to 2,700 pounds with trailer brakes when ordered with its factory tow hitch ($46,975); Hyundai does not recommend towing with other Ioniq 5 trims (2027 Ioniq 5 specifications).

The Ioniq 5 N and Ioniq 6 N both use an 84-kWh battery and dual motors with 601 hp, or 641 hp with N Grin Boost. The 2026 Ioniq 5 N hatchback costs $59,900 after a $6,300 cut and is rated at 221 miles (electrive). The lower 2027 Ioniq 6 N sedan reaches 60 mph in under 3.2 seconds, by Hyundai's estimate (Jalopnik), is EPA-rated at 245 miles (fueleconomy.gov) and comes to the US in limited numbers; Hyundai has not announced its US price.
Tech and Safety: How Do They Compare?
Both have twin 12.3-inch screens, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and Vehicle-to-Load power on upper trims. The Ioniq 5 XRT and Limited add Highway Driving Assist 2, Surround View and Blind-Spot View Monitor, and the Limited a head-up display and Bose audio.
The Ioniq 5 earned a 2026 IIHS Top Safety Pick+ and the Ioniq 6 a 2025 Top Safety Pick+. Both carry a 10-year/100,000-mile EV battery warranty (Hyundai warranty).
