2027 Hyundai Santa Fe: What Changes, When It Lands, and What It Should Cost

Published August 19, 2026 · Last updated August 19, 2026

The Santa Fe is the rare three-row SUV a New Yorker can actually live with: long enough inside for a car seat, a scooter and a Costco run, short enough outside to fit the spot you finally found. A mid-cycle refresh is coming for 2027, and it looks like a bigger one than most. Here is what has been reported, what is still guesswork, and what the confirmed 2026 numbers say about price.

Where the 2027 information stands. Hyundai has not published 2027 Santa Fe trims, pricing or EPA ratings. Everything below is confirmed 2026 data, labeled as such, because that is the reliable baseline for shopping today. Where something is expected rather than announced, this page says so, and it is updated the day official figures land.

What's changing on the 2027 Hyundai Santa Fe?

More than a set of new wheels. Prototypes have been photographed in Europe and California for months, and by early summer Hyundai had pulled the front camouflage off a test car during hot-weather runs. The reporting points to one of the more thorough mid-cycle updates Hyundai has done recently: a reworked front end with slimmer headlamps and daytime running lights moved lower into the bumper, a cleaner grille, and a redesigned tail that finally addresses the car's most criticized feature, those very low-set taillights. Spy shots show an illuminated bar across the rear. Inside, photographers caught a squared-off steering wheel and a revised screen layout, with the industry expecting Hyundai's new Pleos infotainment software.

Also reported, though unconfirmed: an extended-range electric version for North America, where a gas engine works purely as a generator. Meanwhile the fix everyone asked for already arrived, since the balky eight-speed dual-clutch on the gas 2.5-liter turbo was replaced by a conventional eight-speed automatic for 2026. The hybrid keeps its six-speed.

How it compares with the last restyle

The current car is not old. The fifth generation arrived for 2024 as a clean-sheet redesign: boxy body, H-shaped lighting, longer wheelbase, a far larger tailgate opening, a standard third row the previous Santa Fe never offered, and the paired 12.3-inch curved display. That was the big change. The 2027 update, by every account, reworks the face, tail, screens and software while leaving the packaging alone.

When is the 2027 Hyundai Santa Fe release date?

Release timing at a glance

  • Official announcement: not made. No 2027 Santa Fe trims, pricing or press materials have been published.
  • Expected debut: late 2026 or early 2027, based on testing schedules and reporting.
  • Where it is built: Montgomery, Alabama, which shortens the gap between reveal and delivery.
  • Order of arrival: gas trims first, hybrid allocation weeks behind.
  • What you can do now: tell us trim, drivetrain and color and we will flag the first matching allocation, no deposit.

A note dealers rarely put in writing: the weeks around a model-year changeover are usually the best weeks to buy the outgoing car. If a 2026 Santa Fe already does what your family needs, incentives on remaining stock often beat what the refresh adds. Our lease deals and factory incentives pages show whether that math currently favors you.

Will the 2027 Hyundai Santa Fe cost more?

Almost certainly, and by more than a typical carryover year, since new lighting, interior hardware and software usually arrive with a content bump. History suggests hundreds per trim rather than thousands. Some outlets have floated a $35,000 to $55,000 spread, though nothing is confirmed.

For a real baseline, the 2026 range opens at $35,050 for the gas SE and tops out at $48,700 for the Calligraphy Hybrid, both before the $1,600 destination charge. All-wheel drive adds $1,800 on every trim except XRT, where it is standard.

Two things matter more than sticker: the gap between MSRP and what you sign, and whether your trim is on the ground. A trade appraisal done before you negotiate and a pre-approval needing no Social Security number or date of birth pin your real payment range faster than any pricing guide.

Below is the 2026 lineup, the newest data Hyundai has published. Prices exclude the $1,600 destination charge; EPA figures are estimates.

One quirk decides a lot of purchases: the XRT is gas only, and the hybrid comes as SE, SEL, Limited and Calligraphy but never XRT. The off-road hardware and the 36 mpg cannot be had in one vehicle.

Gas or hybrid on New York streets?

For most people reading this, the hybrid. Its advantage is largest where our driving is worst: stop, crawl, stop again. The front-drive hybrid is rated 37 mpg in the city, one better than its highway number, because the electric motor does the work at low speed while the battery recovers energy at every brake pedal. Against 20 mpg city for the gas 2.5T, that is no rounding error over a year of Queens Boulevard and the BQE.

The gas turbo still earns its place: 277 horsepower, 311 lb-ft, 3,500 pounds of towing in most trims, and real strength merging onto a parkway fully loaded. Mostly highway miles, or a trailer? Take the turbo.

The interior details that earn their keep

Hyundai spent this generation's budget on the cabin. Physical controls survived around the shifter, which matters when you reach for climate at 20 mph on a street shared with cyclists and delivery bikes. Wireless charging sits up front, dual pads on Limited and above, with USB-C through the rows.

The third row is what separates this SUV from the two-row crossovers it is priced against: usable for kids, fine for adults on shorter hops, with its own vents, cupholders, USB-C ports and, on higher trims, a 120-volt outlet.

On the right is the feature New Yorkers talk about most: the Blind-Spot View Monitor on Limited and Calligraphy, which throws a live camera feed of the lane beside you into the gauge cluster the moment you signal. On an avenue of double-parked trucks it is a necessity, not a novelty.

Where the XRT fits

The XRT is not a costume. It sits 1.3 inches higher, wears all-terrain tires and dark 18-inch wheels, has standard all-wheel drive, and for 2026 added Terrain Mode with Mud, Snow and Sand settings. It also carries the highest tow rating at 4,500 pounds. For weekends in the Catskills it is the one to drive, at the cost of about three combined mpg and the hybrid option.

The awards, and what they actually mean

Cars.com named the Santa Fe Best Car of 2025 in its first year on sale, then Best Family Car of 2026 in February, citing the space-efficient three-row layout and standard safety equipment. Cars.com also placed the Palisade and IONIQ 5 among its Best of 2026 finalists, so this win came inside a strong home lineup.

On safety it carries the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety's Top Safety Pick+, its highest award. J.D. Power also named Hyundai the top mass-market brand in its 2025 U.S. Tech Experience Index study. Every Santa Fe gets a 10-year/100,000-mile powertrain warranty covering hybrid components, 5-year/60,000-mile basic coverage and three years of complimentary maintenance.

Why the Santa Fe works for New York drivers

Start with footprint, the number nobody advertises. This is a midsize three-row that parks like a two-row, which is the difference between the space in front of your building and twenty more minutes circling. It clears the height limit at most city garages. Squared corners and upright glass make it easy to place in a lane narrowed by construction plates, and the surround-view camera plus Blind-Spot View Monitor turn a tight parallel spot into a non-event. Add HTRAC all-wheel drive for the mornings the Belt Parkway freezes, seating high enough to see over the sedan that just cut you off, remote start through Bluelink, and a Digital Key you can hand to whoever is doing the airport run. Then the money: for a household driving avenues rather than interstates, the hybrid's 37 mpg city rating is the most valuable spec here, because in New York the city cycle is the whole commute. It also never needs plugging in, so none of this depends on a driveway or a working curbside charger.

Arrive with your numbers settled. Our pre-approval takes minutes, needs no Social Security number or date of birth, and gives a real payment range before anyone touches your credit.

Then stack what is available: lease deals and factory incentives often combine, and an early trade appraisal often closes the gap between a gas trim and the hybrid by itself.

Frequently asked questions

Has Hyundai officially announced the 2027 Santa Fe?
Not yet. No 2027 trims, pricing or EPA data have been published, so every figure here comes from the confirmed 2026 model year and is labeled that way.
What is expected to change on the 2027 Santa Fe?
A substantial refresh: new front fascia with slimmer headlamps and lower daytime running lights, a cleaner grille, and a reworked rear with an illuminated bar. Inside, a squared-off wheel and revised screens, with the industry expecting Hyundai's Pleos software. An extended-range electric variant has been reported but is unconfirmed.
When will the 2027 Santa Fe arrive at dealerships?
Late 2026 into early 2027. Because U.S. production runs in Montgomery, Alabama, the gap between reveal and delivery is usually shorter than for imported models. Exact dates go here once Hyundai confirms them.
Will the 2027 Santa Fe be more expensive than the 2026?
Expect an increase, likely hundreds per trim rather than thousands. For reference, 2026 runs from $35,050 for the gas SE to $48,700 for the Calligraphy Hybrid before $1,600 destination, with AWD adding $1,800 where optional.
How much better is the Santa Fe Hybrid's fuel economy?
The front-drive hybrid is EPA-estimated at 37/36/36 and AWD hybrids at 35/34/34, against 20/29/24 for the gas 2.5T. On a 17.7-gallon tank that is roughly 650 city miles between fill-ups.
Does the Santa Fe Hybrid need to be plugged in?
No. It recharges through regenerative braking and the gas engine, so your parking routine does not change. This generation offers no plug-in hybrid.
How many people does the Santa Fe seat, and how much cargo fits?
Seven with a bench, six with captain's chairs, and the third row is standard on every trim. Cargo opens past 40 cubic feet with the third row folded and close to 80 with the second row down.
Can I reserve a 2027 Santa Fe at Plaza Hyundai before it arrives?
Yes, at no cost and with no deposit. Send us the trim, drivetrain and color you want and we will contact you when a matching unit is allocated to us, before it is listed publicly.
I'm not close by. How do delivery and service work?
Purchased vehicles are delivered free within 25 miles, covering most of Brooklyn, Queens, Manhattan, Staten Island, the Bronx and nearby Long Island and New Jersey. Service offers pickup and drop-off across the entire NYC metro area.
What is Plaza Auto Mall, and why does it matter for an SUV shopper?
A family-owned dealership group serving New York from Nostrand Avenue since 1975, with five new brands, Hyundai, Honda, Toyota, Kia and Acura, each with its own factory certified pre-owned program, and more than 1,000 vehicles inside a seven-minute walk. The Santa Fe, Palisade, Sorento, Telluride, Highlander and Pilot can all be driven the same afternoon.
What if I want a used vehicle from a brand you don't sell new?
Plaza Auto Mall also runs a multibrand used-vehicle operation, so the group used inventory includes makes well beyond the five franchises on the block, with the same delivery, appraisal and financing terms.
